Taking Care of Yourself

June 11, 2020 | Caregiver Resources

As a caregiver, it can be easy to forget to take care of yourself. However, it is important to stay healthy and practice good self-care habits since caregiving can be draining on your mental and physical well-being. A few ways to take care of yourself when you are a caregiver include the following:

  • Taking care of your body by exercising and eating a healthy diet
  • Seeing your doctor on a regular basis and making sure to get routine health screenings
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help from others when feeling overwhelmed
  • Participate in activities that you enjoy
  • Get support from others who are going through a similar situation by participating in a support group
  • Understand that is normal to feel a wide range of emotions throughout the caregiving process
  • Obtain respite assistance in order to get a much deserved break

The most important thing to remember is that by taking care of yourself physically and emotionally, you will be able to be the best caregiver possible to your loved one.
